Interesting, James. I did a style of non-spiritual meditation devised in Norway by the ACEM organisation that sounds similar in mechanism. But I don't think I ever really reached an altered state like you describe. Thanks for inspiring me to check out TM.
This description of "landing on the seabed" made me think about my experiences while scuba diving. Probably because of the rhythmic breathing required when moving calmly around underwater, I've always found I can finally shut off my active thinking and just listen to my, noisy, breath in and out. I think I'll try mediating again, this time listening to one of my old scuba diving videos. Thanks for sharing!
